Time flies, right? Let’s dive right in.
Work/School: I didn’t get in to grad school. I’m a bit bummed about this. They didn’t bother saying why (or rather, said there were too many applicants to go into specifics for each person). I was looking forward to diving in to studying, but I guess it just wasn’t in the cards. No reason I can’t be studying on my own (and I plan to), but it would’ve been nice to have the resources, structure, and outcome of an actual program.
This means I need to start applying to jobs in earnest. If you know of any junior PM or Producer roles, please send them my way — I still really want to get out of QA (may be alright with a lead/management role), and I feel like these roles would be well suited to me in terms of abilities and interests. Resume and calling card are here.
Other stuff: There’s not much there at the moment, but I started a FFXIV blog, the Calamity Institute. If you feel like infrequent (or optimistically, semi-frequent) MMO geekery, that’s where I’ll be putting it. The new expansion drops in June, which I’m looking forward to.
I’ve been jonesing for a trip somewhere. It’s hard to justify spending the cash when I should conserving my savings, but that doesn’t stop the wanderlust. Do you have suggestions on somewhere inexpensive but fun to go? Or feel like getting a visit from me? Let me know.
Some interesting reading for you, dear reader:
- The Web is a Customer Service Medium (aka “Why Wasn’t I Consulted?”). Paul Ford making some astute observations about the fundamental nature of the web.
- Glitch, a new project from Fog Creek which allows for rapid development, remixing, and collaboration for web projects. Pretty nifty. Feels very old-web, but in a good way.
- Founder Stories: Leah Culver of Breaker. Nice, quick read talking about startups and projects. I’m mostly tickled because I know Leah from my Dropbox days, and I always find it exciting when friends are getting recognition for doing cool stuff.
